I wasn’t feeling well the day I was supposed to go so I had to pass on the experience. I know it doesn’t look like the set but getting to go inside such an iconic house is a rare chance. All the top stories -- local news, local sports, lifestyle, opinions, obituaries, entertainment, plus regional/national/global info to keep you informed.

All 73 replica houses were equipped with GE products. At the last minute it was discovered that the film version of the house did not hold GE equipment. A quick revision was made assuring that the Blandings house had the newest GE appliances in the kitchen.

Movie and TV Houses in Studio City

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood was filmed all over the LA area so I have been trying to visit as many filming locations from the movie as I can. Brad Pitt’s character lived in a trailer behind the Van Nuys drive-in theatre, which was actually filmed at the Paramount drive-in since the Van Nuys location no longer exists. While you can go to the drive-in, the trailer is not there. But, you can see Leo’s Character Rick Dalton’s house.

Around the country, 73 dream house adaptations sprang up. The Hollywood tie-in to the Blandings Dream House was just the thing on which Bohannon would capitalize. The movie, which starred Myrna Loy and Cary Grant, was a great success.

The process, however, is marred by numerous problems, including cost overruns and shoddy workmanship. Grant’s character, a harried ad executive, discovers his dream home is more like a nightmare, all while having to deal with a hellish commute. The situation is further complicated by troubles at work and his suspicion that his wife is having an affair with his best friend (played by Melvyn Douglas). You cannot see the Boy Meets World house from the street. There are bushes providing a barrier between the home and the street.

The completed home was to be open for tours at 25 cents to benefit youth organizations. The finished model, completely furnished by Macy’s, was to be raffled off for charity. The house was estimated to be worth $19,000 and the furniture added another $10,000. Life magazine ran an article about the dream house. Muriel secretly plans to knock out a wall and remodel their apartment for $7,000. After rejecting this idea, Jim comes across an ad for new homes in Connecticut and they get excited about moving. They buy the property for five times the going rate per acre for locals, provoking Jim's friend and lawyer Bill Cole to chastise him for following his heart rather than his head. Finding filming locations from movies and TV shows has become one of my favorite things to do. Lately, I have been visiting a lot of famous TV and movie houses in Los Angeles. Almost any part of the LA area will be home to at least one or two of the iconic houses.

He bought acres of open land in Burlingame and San Mateo. Bohannon had been in the middle of constructing his Hillsdale development when World War II started. Our own version of the dream house was in David Bohannon’s Hillsdale development in San Mateo.

The book begins in fictional Landsdale County, Connecticut, where Jim and Muriel Blandings are being shown an old farmhouse by a real estate agent. Blandings, a successful New York advertising executive, and his wife want to leave their tiny Midtown apartment, where they live with their two daughters. They fantasize that the farmhouse will meet their needs. Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House, which was adapted from Eric Hodgins’s popular novel of the same name, was timely, given the post-World War II housing-construction boom. To promote the film, the studio built 73 exact replicas of Mr. Blandings’s “Dream House” across the country, which they sold or gave away in raffles.

Written and produced by the team of Melvin Frank and Norman Panama, it was an adaptation of the 1946 novel of the same name written by Eric Hodgins and illustrated by William Steig. The Gilmore Girls House is located on the Warner Bros Lot and can be seen on the studio tour as long as they are not filming in that area. Your best chance to see it is on the weekends when little to no filming is happening. For the last two Christmases, the studio has decorated the home for the holidays which has been incredible to see. While the majority of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off was filmed on location in Chicago, there were a few scenes that were filmed in the LA area.

The House from Pee Wee’s Big Adventure is located at 1848 Oxley Street in South Pasadena. I wish I could visit the iconic Braverman house that Zeke and Camile owned on Parenthood but that was built on the Universal Backlots. However, there are locations where the many other characters lived that can be visited.
